{hoover leads rebels over dallas}

Greg Hoover rushed for 214 yards on 19 carries, including touchdown runs of 62 and 49 yards, as visiting South Albany dominated Dallas 36-10 Thursday night in Mid-Willamette Conference action.The victory, combined with Corvallis’ 26-13 victory over Silverton, moves the Rebels(6-1, 4-0) closer to securing a postseason bid.
“The kids are real excited,” said South Albany coach Tony Matta. “The last couple of years, those classes that graduated have continually gotten better and built the foundation that this year is building on.”The Dragons stacked their defensive line in an attempt to stop South Albany running back Jesse Duke, Matta said.That opened up space for Hoover to run to the opposite side out of the Rebels’ double-wing offense.
Duke still managed to rush for 48 yards on 11 carries, and he scored the game’s first touchdown on a pass from from Zac Hunter.Duke also scored on a 2-yard run in the fourth quarter.Lane Stutzman recorded the Rebels’ other touchdown, scoring on a 3-yard run in the second quarter.
South Albany can clinch a spot in the playoffs with a win at home next week over Crescent Valley (5-2, 3-1) which is currently in fourth place in the conference.The Rebels close the regular season with the toughest part of their schedule, playing on the road at West Albany (Oct. 24 ) and Corvallis (Oct. 31).
“It’s been seven years since South Albany has been to the playoffs and the kids know that,” Matta said. “The weight room has paid off and they are playing good, physical football.”
